  • Abstract: This essay is aimed at capturing the influence of theatrical aesthetics of Konstantin Stanislavsky in the cultural and scenic context of Brazil through the analysis of the theatrical work of some of his disciples, who emigrated or went into exile all over the world including Brazil. The central question in this essay is: how Stanislavsky’s methodology born and developed in Russian theatrical environment transformed to fit the goals and theatrical traditions of other cultural contexts. It is known that some of his disciples disseminated Stanislavsky’s theatrical theories and thoughts, which produced profound impact on theatrical practice and theory in several Western countries, in particular in the United States, as well as in Brazil. The diffusion of his ideas and theatrical precepts also took place through actors, assistants, students, and followers, Russian or others, who for various reasons separated from their Moscow Art Theater master and became interpreters and representatives of his principles and “formulas” in different countries. The Russian theatrical migratory experience in the Brazilian theatrical field not only made feasible the transmission of concepts and practice from great masters of Russian theater on Brazilian soil, but, mainly, it promoted great cultural integration and assimilation, driven by Brazilian historical and theatrical circumstances and never detached from contemporary Brazilian social situation.
