Piotr Bitsilli and Russian Prague: on the History of Relationship

Abstract: The article is devoted to the relationship of Piotr M. Bitsilli with the intellectual environment of Russian Prague in the 1920–1930s. The emphasis is on subjects that have not received wide coverage in historiography. On the basis of previously unknown archival documents, the professor’s participation in the activities of Russian émigré organizations in Prague (for example, in the Russian Historical Society) is described. Particular attention is paid to his contacts with members of N.P. Kondakov Archaeological Institute. Relationship of Piotr Bitsilli with Russian Prague are interesting not only in the context of his biography, but also in connection with the need to understand the features of the connections between different émigré centers, to identify the mechanisms of intellectual communication.
